Q&A Turbostart

9 Questions and Answers on TURBOSTART

Who is the prime target for TURBOSTART?Any company with the need to stop and restart their blown film line due to process needs in shorter intervals (like once a day). Also blown film plants with limited manpower (number and training level) will benefit from TURBOSTART heavily.
What is the problem on the customer side?(Stopping and) restarting the line requires time, resources and trained manpower to do the right thing at the right time and in the correct sequence. In addition, the operators need to thread up the line under a certain time pressure and use knifes on a running machine. This is the most critical moment when operating a blown film line and exposes the operators to possible hazards.
What is the benefit of TURBOSTART?Supporting the operator when stopping and restarting the line by reducing the number of “klicks” from ~500 down to 7 (!) on one screen.

Simultaneously there is a big increase in operators’ safety.

How is this achieved?
  • Soft- and Hardware modification within the PROCONTROL automation panel, calibrating cage, haul off and winder
  • Automatic slitting of the film in the flattening
  • Automatic cutting system to let the air out of the flattened bubble
  • Fully automatic insertion of the edge slitting knifes
What is the benefit?Up to 50% reduction of startup-time and scrap and only 1 operator needed.
What is the added value?

  • A single operator can start up the line
  • No need to climb up the tower for cutting out the air
  • No knifes needed to go from tube to sheet production
  • Cut the startup-time into half and gain more time for good production
  • Create less startup scrap
Does TURBOSTART focus on a certain market segment, or has it been developed for a certain kind of manufacturer? No, TURBOSTART can do good on almost all W&H blown film lines and should be recommended to all that start and stop their blown lines in shorter intervals (like once per day)
Since when is TURBOSTART on the market?Since the market launch at K 2019 several TURBOSTART systems are already in production world-wide.
Can TURBOSTART be retrofitted to existing W&H lines?Yes, TURBOSTART is available as retrofit for VAREX II and OPTIMEX II lines.
