Unleashing the Beast: W&H ALPHAFLEX Emerges in India
India’s flexible packaging sector is entering a defining phase. Rising brand expectations, growing export ambitions, sustainability targets and margin pressure are reshaping how converters evaluate technology investments. In this environment, press decisions are no longer just incremental upgrades; they are long-term strategic commitments that influence competitiveness for years to come.
Against this backdrop, the market response to the newly introduced ALPHAFLEX from Windmöller & Hölscher has been both swift and decisive.
Within a short period of its launch, eight ALPHAFLEX presses have been ordered across India, underlining strong confidence in the press’s capability and relevance. The investing key players include Rathna Packaging India Pvt Ltd, Shrianand Poly, Associate Polyprinters, Kusum Polyplast, Ecoplast Ltd, and Mundada Polymers Pvt Ltd. While these converters serve different segments of the Indian packaging ecosystem yet, they share a clear objective: strengthening their competitiveness through advanced, stable and efficient flexographic printing technology.
Responding to Market Realities
Indian converters today operate in a highly demanding environment. Brand owners require sharper graphics, tighter color tolerances, faster turnaround times, and consistent repeatability across a growing number of SKUs. At the same time, converters need to improve operational efficiency, reduce waste and meet rising sustainability requirements.
ALPHAFLEX addresses these converging demands through precision engineering, intelligent automation and a strong focus on production stability. The press is designed to support stable high-speed production, faster job changes, reduced setup waste, and intuitive operation. The emphasis is not solely on output, but on controlled productivity enabling converters to maintain consistent quality while optimizing cost structures.
The ALPHAFLEX was challenged with the most difficult jobs in India. The press successfully ran all customer jobs without tweaking the jobs for better performance. W&H also demonstrated extremely bouncy jobs at K show and Drupa showcasing the press’s ability to deliver stable results even under complex production conditions.
Strategic Investments, Not Routine Purchases
The sale of eight presses within the early phase of market introduction is significant not merely in volume, but also in what it signals for the industry. Indian converters are increasingly investing in press technology that supports scalability, automation and future brand requirements rather than focusing solely on short-term capacity expansion.
For many of these companies, the decision reflects preparation for higher-value packaging segments and more complex print demands, both domestically and in export markets. As brand requirements continue to evolve, converters are looking for technologies that help them raise quality, improve consistency and remain commercially competitive.
Shaping the Next Phase of Flexographic Printing
As installations progress, the impact of these investments is expected to extend beyond individual production floors. Advanced automation, consistent register control, and reduced material waste will likely set new operational benchmarks within the Indian flexographic segment.
The early and widespread adoption of ALPHAFLEX indicates that the Indian market is actively aligning with global performance standards while maintaining its focus on cost efficiency and adaptability.
Eight presses represent a measurable milestone. More importantly, they reflect a clear industry direction toward precision-driven, automation-supported, and strategically future-ready flexographic printing.
“The MIRAFLEX became our most successful press, with nearly 1,000 installations worldwide becoming the most sold press ever. We expect ALPHAFLEX to beat those numbers. We are immensely proud and not at all surprised by the strong response we have received in India. Since its launch, we were excited to unleash the beast and see the magic unfold. I am grateful for our partners and their unwavering trust in W&H and for the reliability we have delivered to the Indian market for more than four decades. I am excited to see what the future holds for us” says Anuj Sahni, Deputy Managing Director, at Windmöller & Hölscher India.
